Canines and Fowl...

Here are our babies...Maverick and Minnie. Over the years, we have reared an assortment of friends of the canine variety...we started with corgis, moved on to Maremma's, branched out to Kelpies (who at least are pretty useful around the place - nipping at the heels and noses of naughty cows, and keeping the bovines together...) And one day, someone had the notion that a Jack Russell pup would be the thing. I wailed and moaned about not needing another dog, then Mav showed up, little and cute, and stole my heart at first glance (I'm such a pushover!) Lord Alan, too, was smitten, and it wasn't long before he knew we needed a mate for his mate...

So Minnie came to live with us. Little and cute, another live wire with so much personality! I put this photo of the pair of them in the Theodore Show photography section (and it won first prize in the Animals class!! See - even the judge couldn't resist them!) Which explains the next photo...I'm one of the photo stewards, and every year after the show, I get a burst of extra interest in snapping a great shot. It remains to be seen whether I succeed in that, but the Guinea Fowl were rattling around outside this morning, and I thought I might get an interesting pic...they have striking feather patterns - such a terrible pity their heads are as ugly as sin!!!

We have a half dozen of these strange looking critters floating about the place - they are curious little girls (we think maybe the rooster met his end at the jaws of a fox - he just vanished...or maybe the girls got tired of him showing off and pecked him to death!) They (like so many of our dogs) serve no particularly useful purpose - except to amuse us with their funny little run and their passionate dislike of Garfield the cat!
